5 Tips to Motivate Yourself to Workout
Everyone struggles with a lack of motivation to workout at one point or another. You have had a busy day at work, didn’t get the best sleep, or just aren’t in the mood.
Whatever your excuse, there are strategies you can take to amp up your motivation for your next workout. Here are our top 5 motivation tips to keep you on track. Reach your goals faster and feel better than you ever thought possible.
1. Quit wasting time. Start your workout, already.
Simple, but effective. Nike was onto something when they coined their slogan, ‘Just Do It.’ Don’t waste time thinking about your workout or deciding if you should workout. Just jump into it. Are you more a morning workout guru? Try wearing your workout clothes to bed. We aren’t kidding. Or if this strategy is too extreme, lay them out, so they are set and ready to go first thing in the morning. No excuses.
2. Renew your sports wardrobe. Because you deserve it.
Treat yourself. Give yourself an incentive. Buy new workout gear or clothes. You’ll look forward to your workout to use them or wear them. Reward yourself for a workout well-done. Have you been eying that new smoothie place around the corner? Go for it! Give yourself what your body has been craving. Not a smoothie gal or guy? Try setting goals, both small and long-term. Small-term goals could vary by the week and give you those feelings of accomplishment, such as running that extra mile, holding that pose a little longer, or doing that extra set. Long-term goals can be your overall goal to be able to touch your toes, or lose that weight for good.
3. Think positive thoughts only.
Do not shut yourself down. Positive thoughts only. Remind yourself why you are working out. The benefits of exercise are endless. Exercise improves your mood, decreases stress, improves cardiovascular health, decrease the risk of chronic diseases, increases energy, improves quality of sleep, can put the spark back in your sex life, boosts confidence, and helps maintain a healthy weight. If you are feeling down, one of the best things you can do is workout. Crank up that endorphin release. Leave positive, inspiring, and motivating notes around your house or office if you have to! If you are really struggling, every time you do workout write down how you feel. These notes can act as simple and personal reminders for yourself. You got this.
4. Sign a contract with a friend.
So, here’s the deal. Accountability is huge when it comes to motivation and working out. Sign a contract with a friend stating that if you skip one of your scheduled workouts, you have to pay up. Make it 20 dollars or something substantial that will make a difference and kick your butt into gear to get moving!
5. Find an exercise or activity you love.
